Weekly fishing reports from around the Cape
and Islands from professional Charter Captains, Tackle shops and the locals
that know. Stripers, Blues, Tunas and more . . .
Patterns emerge over time in any endeavor. Fishing
the Cape is no different. The most difficult times to fish the Cape are
when the wind is up. Watch the weather reports ( you can find weather
urls here ) for the the location of high and low pressure areas, this
can be a handy tool for determining days in advance whether the seas will
be up or calm. The centering of a high over Cape Cod is the only predictable
time for light winds.
Other considerations are forage and water temperature.
The abundance or scarcity of: herring, squid, menhadden, sand eels, silversides,
scup, black eels is often a more valuable inquiry of local tackle shop employees
than, "are they biting?" Water temperature, in turn, can attract
or repel forage species and so improve or diminish the fishing in an area.
Again, asking if the water in an area is warm enough or too warm can be
more helpful than, "what's it like out there?"
