The Fly Pack is an opportunity for fly fishers to outfit themselves with a small but complete selection of Flies for saltwater fishing the Cape and Islands. It is a selection chosen for its universal effectiveness on the most popular species: Striped Bass, Bluefish, Bonito, False Albacore and even Fluke.
These flies are tied locally by men and women who have been fishing the Cape their whole lives and who know which patterns are effective and know how to tie a durable fly. The flies in the pack are tied on 1/0 and #1 hooks which are the standard in the area. They come six in a fly box of their own. Barbs are not flattened, though this is recommended for all but Bluefish.
They are: two (2) Clousers, a Deceiver, a Bunny, a Sand Eel and Bonito Candy.
Included with the flies are suggestions for how to select the proper fly and the most effective fishing techniques for each in a variety of waters and for different species. These flies work consistently in a wide variety of water conditions from shore or boat across the Cape and Islands.
The Chatham Fly Pack is not meant to be an exhaustive selection or all you might need for a week's fishing. Rather, these flies will allow you to enjoy a day on the water with the confidence that you have the right terminal tackle and need only find the fish to be successful.
Since we also recognise that you may prefer to arrive on the Cape more fully prepared for any conditions that you might encounter and with a greater backup should you loose a particularly effective fly to a fish.
