Bonefish Bradley

Certified Bahamian Fly Fishing Guide*

I most often guide from a 16' flats boat with a poling platform. This gives my fishermen and I the best chance to spot and cast to the "ghost of the flats".

Fly fishing casts may be as short as twenty feet but occasionally as long as fifty or sixty. There are all sizes of Bonefish in the area. There are plenty of fish here year 'round, opportunities abound and fishers can expect good catches whenever they come.

Accurate casts certainly help the fisherman succeed in catching bigger fish. When you can place the fly close to the the largest fish in a school or one tailing alone, your chances improve significantly.

I can provide the flies, if necessary, and the tackle too if you need more than you've brought. I'll also recommend specific tackle and flies so you can prepare for your trip.

Spin fishing is also popular and very successful on bonefish as well as on other local species: jacks, barracuda, sharks, tarpon, snapper and more fishes available along the mangroves and ocean shore waters. I guide spinning enthusiasts for whatever fish they may be interested in or for a day's sampling of many of our tropical species.

The Guiding Day

I guide half days and full days, four to eight hours. One or two persons usually fishing from the boat. The day starts at 8:00 a.m. This unhurried starting time allows the sun to rise high enough to aid in spotting the fish on the flats. Fishing usually begins within ten minutes of leaving the dock.

There are so many excellent fishing areas available, it really isn't necessary to travel long distances to find good fishing unless the fisherman has specific places in mind or is interested in sampling a variety of locales and fish populations.

Even so, it would take a lifetime of fishing to cast to even a fraction of the available bonefish within minutes of Fresh Creek or anywhere else you're staying on North Andros from Cargill Creek in the south to Morgan's Bluff and Joulter's Cay up north.

Catching fish is just part of it. Good company and a beautiful area makes Andros a memorable place to fish, and an adventure anytime.

Michael's got another one!

Guides enjoy the flats on their day off too.

Nice fishing conditions, huh?

We have optimal conditions for bonefishing Andros all year!

You may have heard that bonefishing is best at only certain times,

(e.g., March-April, October-November).

This may be true in other places but it isn't true here!!!

We have plenty of bonefish and the big ones can be found every week of every month.

We have hundreds of miles of shoreline near very deep ocean waters, protected by a hundred mile long barrier reef. Bonefish are pelagic, deep ocean fish. It makes sense that on an big island such as Andros, with extensive inland rivers and flats, and where there is always warm water and food to attract the fish, that we would attract a healthy year 'round population of bonefish.

In addition, we have very light fishing pressure on our fish. This is because vacationers don't come to Andros to water ski, para-glide, jet ski, sun bath, shop, gamble or float in water chairs. They come to enjoy the fishing, the very friendly Androsians, and the absolutely safe community. Don't come expecting umbrellas on the beach - or in your drink. There aren't any.

Do come for a quiet getaway, excellent fishing, warm water, a beautiful reef and good company.

We have so much clean, fresh water we ship it by barge to Nassau every week!

Our land and shoreline is mostly unsettled. Our people live simply and quietly, respectful of the natural world.
